When Bingham needed him most, Ben Boelter stepped up to the occasion. The senior quarterback came into the game early in the second quarter with just a 7-3 lead when starter Kyle Gearig injured his elbow. The Miners faced Riverton on November 13 in a game that quickly shifted to Bingham’s favor.
Boelter’s first throw of the game found Michael Green for a 29-yard touchdown. The very next drive, Boelter hit Cameron Smith for a 52-yard scored. Smith went on to rush for another touchdown before the end of the second quarter, putting the Miners up 28-3 advantage going into the half.
After a scoreless third quarter, Bingham had another trip to the endzone, extending the lead to 35-3 by the final whistle. Once again, Boelter picked out Green, this time for a 9-yard score.
This win puts in the Miners at 12-1 on the year, ranking 16th in the DigitalSports National Football Rankings and 1st in Utah.
Bingham also advances to the Utah 5A state finals for the second consecutive season. The Miners face American Fork, a high caliber team tallying at least 41 points or more in all three of its playoff games including two 50+ performances.
Bingham has a tough challenge in front of them, but if the offense continues to excel, even in through injuries, and the defense keeps shutting down opposing offenses, the Miners could win their second consecutive state championship.
